Welcome to Tinryland Alpacas Farm & Stud in Carlow, home of the 2015 and 2016 Alpaca Association of Ireland’s Supreme Champion Huacaya Alpaca and the 2022 Supreme Champion Suri . Ours is a small alpaca farm with happy healthy alpacas set up in Tinryland in 2011, Carlow but now located at Augha Bagenalstown in the sunny south east of Ireland. We started in 2011 with 4 pregnant females and our numbers have swollen to 24 in 2017 ,to 30 in 2018 and to 38 in 2020 with the arrival of our first Suris from the UK. This should grow even further in 2022, 10 years after we started, to 50 alpacas. One question we get asked the most is “are they like llamas, just smaller?” Learn the difference between the llama and the alpaca

Why alpaca are so great to work with
Alpacas are a pleasure to work with. They are easy to handle, gentle with people, especially with children. When halter trained they will learn to walk on a lead rope. Their fleece is known as the “Fibre of the Gods” and can be spun into wool which is lighter but warmer and finer than sheep wool and has the luxurious feel of cashmere.
We personally just love to spend time with the alpacas, out in the field, listening to the many noises they make, from the humming between mother and cria to the quiet munching of grass on a sunny afternoon.
